I believe it is a damn shame that the first thing that pops into some of your heads is that since he is a muslim, he will lead us to hell in a handbasket.

Sad, but true.
Some stereotypes are hard to change.

Obama is christian.

His name WAS Baraka Obama - which is Muslim. He dropped the 'a' at the end. I don't know if he legally dropped it or if he just dropped it himself for whatever reason. But the name was a Muslim name.

Yes, he claims Christianity now.

"Do you think the american people as a whole would vote in a muslim for the president of the united states?"

Well JFK was the only Catholic to ever be elected President and he needed the mob to fix the election in IL to win. So no never.

You know, the reason that this country will more than likely not have a muslim president for several years is because of people like you. I honestly have no idea how you can justify your xenophobia. Just because someone wants to take their oath of office on a Koran that signals the demise of a true cohesive culture and signifies that God no longer has a place in America?

Not only do I think that you should take an intro to religions class, but you should also probably begin to ask yourself why its not okay for someone else to express their faith, but its okay for you too.

If its because you think that their religion is not the one true religion, than you're just as bad as the real terrorists, and nowhere near as compassionate as Keith Ellison

It doesn't make a person a terrorist if that person believes that the faith he/she has chosen is the one that God wants for mankind.

Choosing a religion because you believe it to be 'the one' doesn't make a person a terrorist. A terrorist kills and/or enables other terrorists to kill.

as compassionate as Keith Ellison

Keith Ellison .. hmmmm .. oh yes, he's the fella who has bunches of his constituants shouting 'Allah Akhbar' 'Allah Akhbar' at the rallys he goes to.

Would you like to give us some examples of Keith Ellison's alleged compassion?

A Muslim?
Not a snowballs chance in Hell.
No way, it's never going to happen.

That made absolutely no sense. White women and Black men can be muslim.

And why not a black woman?

I think you kind of missed the point that I was making. The poster that I was responding to was acting as if only Christians have the right to express their religious beliefs in this country, which is ridiculous. By expressing that belief, I think that paints an example of no compassion and even zealotry which is the modus operendi of radical terrorists.

As far as Keith Ellison's compassion, you should read his call for citizens to help out the poor, it went out in an email (or maybe it was on his blog). It is called, "The Myth of Scarscity".

Also, who cares if at his rallies some of Ellison's constituents are shouting "Allah Akhbar"? I know I dont. Its no different than Christian politicians expressing their faith in Jesus at prayer rallies or discussing their faith with their constituents.

Praying to the same God as everyone else in a different way... please explain to me how that is an indictment of someone's character?

Should it really matter what religion they are? There are christian war mongers as well as Moslem war mongers - only moslem war mongers have not got in power yet.

What concerns me is how the people in power use religion to "divide and conquer". There may be all sorts wrong internally but somehow -the government use religion to breed hatred amongst ourselves -when the social problems are across all religions.

Demonising is one step towards tyrrany - and we don't see how we are manipulated. Fortunately, my group are not tyrannised - the agnostics

The reason that a Muslim will never be elected president in America is simple. Their religion teaches them that all non believers (christians, jews, agnostics etc) are the infidels and are the natural enemies of Allah and Islam. The Koran teaches that it is every good Muslims sworn duty to Islam to either A.) convert the non believers to Islam b.) enslave the non believers on behalf of Islam or c.) slaughter the non believers where they stand. How can someone who subscribes to such an intolerant and hateful religion as Islam ever be considered for a position of such power, governing the very people that they are sworn to destroy? The U.S. like it or not has only a very small Muslim population and there is no way that a country that is comprised primarily of Christians and Jewish people would ever accept being ruled by a Muslim must less elect them into office. It just wont happen. I agree that this would signal the beginning of the end for American life and culture as we know it. Just my own opinion of course, and for the record I am not affiliated with any organized religion. And if you intend to reply with the whole "Islam is a religion of peace argument" I suggest you pick up a copy of the Koran and read it first.

It's Arabic, not Muslim.

Muslim isn't a language, it's the person following Islam

Allahu Akbar simply means, "God is the greatest." Would this be any different than when congressmen shout "Praise be Jesus," or "In Jesus's name," during their speeches?

It's funny how a new poster pops up every month and makes such an ignorant comment. Go ahead and post the Surrahs you're referring to. Really, this is like an endless process.

Funny how I could say the same to you.

What a truly ignorant post. If you judge the Bible by some of its most extreme statements it reads pretty bad as well. The commandments to conquor the cities of Judeah and to slaughter every man woman and child stick out...the writer of the psalm "by the rivers of Babylon" ends with the desire to smash his enemies children's heads against the rocks. Then there is revelations. And if you read that fundamentalist pornography "The Left behind" series, the violence and desire for the "the revenge of God" is lurid and obscene.

I apologize if you have misunderstood my post. The question here is if a Muslim could ever be elected president of the United States...not "which religion is most evil and wicked." I am not suggesting one religion is findamentally better than the other. My point here is that in a country filled with the very people that the Koran suggests be slaughtered or enslaved I highly doubt that a Muslim candidate would stand a very good chance of being elected. I agree completely that Christianity in a lot of it's passages suggests equally brutal statements. I am neither pro Christian nor am I pro Islam, I am simply stating that it is highly unlikely that a country that is by far majority Christian would elect anyone who would subscribe to Islam which in it's basic principles suggests bratality towards them. The scriptures below speak for themselves.

Koran XLVII (47) [47.4]

"When ye encounter the infidels, strike off their heads till ye have made a great slaughter among them, and of the rest make fast the fetters."

Koran SURA IX (9.5)

"And when the sacred months are passed, kill those who join other gods with God wherever ye shall find them; and seize them, besiege them, and lay wait for them with every kind of ambush: but if they shall convert, and observe prayer, and pay the obligatory alms, then let them go their way, for God is Gracious, Merciful."

I seriously doubt that western women would take very kindly to this kind of philosophy -

SURA IV.

"Men are superior to women on account of the qualities with which God hath gifted the one above the other, and on account of the outlay they make from their substance for them. Virtuous women are obedient, careful, during the husband's absence, because God hath of them been careful. But chide those for whose refractoriness ye have cause to fear; remove them into beds apart, and scourage them: but if they are obedient to you, then seek not occasion against them: verily, God is High, Great!"
