Could we of changed to an Alternative Fuel Based Economy for the Cost of the War on Terror?($.5 trillion)

Just a thought, but I heard that the US has a ridiculous amount of surplus corn and other crops that it could convert to Methane, then we could use the Electrical Grid to fuel our cars, since we have the infrastructure and if we don't use peak hours, there's the electricity, and then build several more nuclear reactors.

Right now it's just a thought, I haven't sat down and compared the two figures against each other but it would be interesting to see.

If this war is about oil, as long as we have our boys over there we should be doing everything at home to kick our habit from their junk(oil). Maybe the sooner we don't want their oil the sooner our problems aren't theirs?
