I'd like to make a few suggestions for this project.

a. Consider giving points of atleast an atta-boy for commercials and podcasts that candidates can use as commercials nad radio-type shows and adverts.

b. No campaign is complete without fixers, fund raisers, and various shady staffers. Consider having candidates list ATS members who advise them.

c. Consider a dedicated forum for tabloid...I mean NEWS...posts. ATS members who want to dig through old posts and other stuff that's on the net mighthave fun playing journalist to dish on the candidates.

d. Every "honest" election has some oversight. There could be an Above Politics Elections Oversight committee staffed by persons not in the running who could draft standards of conduct and the like. Candidates who prove to be out of control could be barred. Fairness and decency.

This is brilliant!. I can only imagine the level of discussion we are going to see when this gets down to the nitty gritty.

To the future of AbovePolitics!

chissler, you have enough people in this forum that respect you. You seem to be an everyday down to Earth type person. Why not run? Your people may demand it....

I don't mean to call you out but I feel like many posters would jump onto the band wagon to endorse you and you might be more open to listen to someone else rather than me....

Well it's not every day someone tells you they would like you to be President of the United States. ...Maybe I should allow this to soak in for a moment.

........That felt good.

It actually never crossed my mind to enter my name into this one. I've seen what some of the members of ATS have to offer, and I would be kidding myself to group myself in their company.

But we can all have a dream. ...Right?

If I were going to actually "label" myself, I'd come down in the realm of Liberal-Socialist. I tend to avoid placing labels, mainly because I withhold the right to change my opinion on anything. But that's that I guess.

As much as I appreciate the recognition, I will probably not submit my name into the hat. But I would always be willing to lend a hand, be it a helping hand behind the scenes, debate to discuss & test platforms, etc., whatever the "Person In Charge" would ask. Grant it I would have to support the platform, and the member himself/herself.

Maybe next time.

Vote chissler 2012!

I've still got several polling teams and investigators in the field. I'm due to hear back from my exploration committee chair next week. Seems that we've got some input from ATS members to process.

I dunno. Not everyone has the time to create these. Plus, it might turn into an avatar contest type of thing.

b. No campaign is complete without fixers, fund raisers, and various shady staffers. Consider having candidates list ATS members who advise them.

Ahh, you mean like identifying who is your own personal Karl Rove? Veddy interesting...

c. Consider a dedicated forum for tabloid...I mean NEWS...posts. ATS members who want to dig through old posts and other stuff that's on the net mighthave fun playing journalist to dish on the candidates.

This is an interesting point you bring up. It asks the question of what are the limits on divulging info about candidates. What is acceptable? What is relevant? Are tactics which would be considered normal or tame in the real world be prohibited here?

d. Every "honest" election has some oversight. There could be an Above Politics Elections Oversight committee staffed by persons not in the running who could draft standards of conduct and the like. Candidates who prove to be out of control could be barred. Fairness and decency.

I think we'll get the stock answer of "Do not stray from the T&C's".

I thought about this for a bit, and decided that even though I doubt I've got a snowball's chance in hell this looks like a hell of a lot of fun. So what the hell, Cyber78 is now running under the Reform party since the Regressive party isn't on there.

My platform so far looks something like this;

  • I feel that lobbyists involement with politicians should be kept as non-material as possible.
  • A proper investigation of the events of 9/11 will be launched.
  • In the event that the events of 9/11 differ from the official story the government will admit to this and apologize.
  • In the event that the government itself was responsible for the 9/11 attacks, apologies and reperations shall be made.
  • In the event that 9/11 occured as the current administration said they did than the full details of this investigation will still be released. Classified docuements concerning the events will still be declassified.
  • The entire Library of Congress shall be copied and uploaded on to the internet for public use throughtout the world.
  • I would select an ambassador to the UN who would press for reform within the UN. Mainly to elimanate corruption and respect national sovergnty.
  • I would put a stop to the NAFTA agreement and work out an agreement that did not give unchecked power to corporations.
  • Prohibit the Pentagon from selling military grade equipment to police forces that don't honestly need such equipment.
  • Introduce and and push for an amendment against sexism in areas where sex should have no logical impact. However this comes on the condition of making females eligable for the draft.
  • Sign an executive order that will make the USA PATRIOT Act no longer effective until a time when Congress formally repeals the Patriot Act.
  • Place higher taxes on companies that outsource jobs. Lower taxes for companies that don't outsource.
  • Formally challenge the European Union to a race to Mars. Another space race is what this country needs for a bit of motivation and self confidence.
  • Increase NASA's funding for space exploration and manned flights.
  • Switch production of paper money over to the US Treasury Department. Also move all US government financial assets from the Federal Reserve over to the Treasury.
  • Introduce and push for an amendment that will require the US government to have a balanced budget each year.
  • Eliminate the estate tax for the poor and middle class.
  • Support an amendment that will elect the President of the United States to be done via popular vote.
  • I promise to actually listen to the American public's opinion.
  • I will veto any federal laws on gun control.
  • I will veto any legislation one way or the other concerning abortion as I feel that abortion is an issue for the states.
  • Same goes for marriage. The federal government shall not get involved with marriage under my presidency.
  • International Talk Like A Pirate Day will be a national holiday.
  • No more illegal wiretapping or other illegal surveilance on American soil without a warrant from a proper judge.
  • Provide funding for and encourage research into alternative fuel sources. Specifically for automobiles.
  • End subsidies for farms that require farmers grow less than full capacity if they choose to convert their surplus into a sellable form of ethanol.
  • Allow for construction of more refineries and nuclear plants until alternative fuels become practical.
  • Increase funding to the Department of Education for the purpose of giving grants to schools that use their money for academics. Schools that waste an excessive amount of money on athletics will get their federal grants cut.
  • If elected I will change the National Anthem into something better, such as the Imperial March
  • Increase the quotas for immigration to allow for more legal immigrants.
  • Sanction Mexico if their government doesn't secure their northern border.
  • I'll also allow for high tech monitering systems to be placed along the border.
  • Give Israel and Palistine each a chance to clean up their act before I start cutting their foreign aid from the US.

And yeah, that's my platform so far. More to come.

I would, if possible like to change my candidacy to independent. I think that not being constrained to the beliefs of a certain party will allow me to get my views and goals completed.

I think you may need to talk to the Administration on this one.

The problem with an independant is that you can't really have primaries and could end up with many more candidates during the main election. Of course you could limit their exposure and advertising ability in order to make up for this. It would also be more realistic.

As for myself I am considereing nomination for the Republican Party here but I have not yet made my final decision.

I still think Independent and Reform are two different things....but since apparently they aren't, and I don't want to run under Reform, I'll likely run with the elephants....

I am Gimmefootball400 and I am running for the Office of the Presidency of the United States on ATS for the Democratic Nomination. I will make it my sworn duty to run a clean and excellent campaign. As most of you folks know by my posts on here, I am very polite. I'm like The Vagabond also, I too would have voted for Pedro if I saw the t-shirts. What would be scary about me being elected is that I have a brain unlike a majority of politicians in Washington.

I would......

First.
Ensure the safety and well being of every legalized citizen in my country without intruding on their privacy nor take away our freedoms that our Forefathers set for us in the government to follow.

Second.
Sign an agreement with Mexican government as to where they must secure their side of the border.

Third.
Set aside millions to help fight hunger and poverty in the United States of America. That way more people will not be living on the streets of American cities.

Fourth.
Build the Armed Forces back up like it was before Clinton's second term in office without having to reinstate the draft.

Fifth.
I would only reinstate the military draft if this country was at a severe risk of attack from another country.

Sixth.
I would also make it a priority to find and prosecute all persons who were behind the Iraq War intelligence debochle and the invasion itself.

Seventh.
One of my priorities would be to require the railroads of the United States, even Canadian National and the Canadian Pacific, to help in the mass evacuation of a particular area. First offense will result in a one million dollars per hour fine if the order is not heeded. Second, will be a thirty fold increase per day. Third offense will result in a takeover where the length shall be determined by the Secretaries of the Department of Transportation, the Federal Railroad Administration, and the Association of American Railroads. However, the Canadian rail lines will not be taken over, but fined fifty fold after the thirty million per day.

Eighth.
Have a bill passed that sets up a Universal Health Care System that will cover every legalized citizen of the United States.

Ninth.
I would also do away with the lawless domestic spying that the NSA has been allowed to do under the current administration. This includes wiretapping and the bugging of people homes and property. If I were to find out who authorized the wiretapping, they shall be charged with Treason and put in front of a Military Tribunal.

Tenth.
Make 'Super Bowl Sunday' a national holiday.

Most of all I would go after corporations who ship jobs overseas to avoid the labor laws here in the states. This will include any corporation that has blatantly shipped jobs overseas due to the Unionization of workers here in the States. Any corporation that has been found to be doing this will be punished to the full extent of the law that the law will allow. First offense will be a lawsuit brought on by the government against said company. That company must pay up a given amount within the time frame alotted by the courts. If the company does not comply, that is when it starts to go downhill for the CEOs of that company.

Second offense will be the formal charging and conviction of CEOs as to where the evidence determines the severity of the punishment. Charges will range from Money Laundering to Conspiracy. The money laundering charges, if convicted, itself carry a maximum of up to fifteen years inside a Federal Corrections Facility. The conspiracy charges, again if convicted, would carry a maximum of up to fifty years in jail. On the third offense is when the company is shut down by the Federal Trade Commission, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Also on the third offense, the CEOs in charge of the company at that time will be tried in the courts.

I would also go after the so-called lobbyists and the so-called institutes in Washington. If any lobbyist were to be found to have been coherecing money from companies for a political gain for a politican, the lobbyist will be in deep trouble. The lobbyist, if convicted, could spend up to sixty years in a Federal jailhouse. Not only will that lobbyist be in trouble with the law, that politican that they were giving money to would be in trouble. The certain politician(s) will be removed from their post, removed from their seat in either the House or the Senate, and not be allowed to run for a government position again.

Don't think that the companies involved will get off with just a slap on the wrist, oh no. The company or companies involved will be subjected to Congressional and Justice Department investigation. If the evidence supporting the case is overwhelming, it will be then that the case will be taken to court. Whoever it is that has been found to have been giving these contributions will be punished to the full extent as to which the law will allow.

Another thing I would do is to clean up our image in parts of Europe, Asia, and most definitely in the Middle East. That is to make up our alliances that were lost due to the former administrations view on foreign policy. Any country that was pushed aside by them that wants us back by their side, I will make that happen. Not only that, I will make it my duty to revive the alliances that were destroyed due to the former administration's views.

Why can't we be friends after all

No worries Grim, I'm just up to my usual psych-jobs; enjoying the way people worry about what I might do when it comes time to debate. Not that I blame them; afterall I did bludgeon a good friend of mine using Kenny G as a cudgel. (we really should have another round of commedy debates some time, after the campaign)
