Since when does the U.S. Air Force have helo gunships?

I'm sure the U.S. Airforce/Military has so many gadgets that aren't public they could fill a empty airplane hangar. We've had terrorists from Africa attack before but I believe none where affiliated with AlQaeda, can anyone ellaborate?

Well I figured it had to be that type of aircraft linked to the Air Force and also involving Special Operations. News report got it wrong earlier.
