A storm in Denmark on New Year's Day forced an evacuation of two apartment complexes near Copenhagen. They cheated with the concrete in order to save money when they constructed them. The buildings are unstable and might collapse in strong winds! More than 1000 people live in these buildings.

Latest Jyllands-Posten: Faulty towers evacuated

Stormy weather forced residents in two ageing apartment complexes to spend New Year's Day in a temporary shelter

Gale force winds led police to evacuate two high-rise apartment complexes in the western suburb of Rødovre on Monday.

Building inspectors had previously noted that concrete from the 1950s-era buildings had been poorly mixed and made them susceptible to collapse under severe weather conditions.

As wind strength picked up during Monday's storm and reached more than 30 metres per second, police decided to evacuate the twin red towers that loom more than 10 stories above Rødovre and house more than 1000 people.

What this article doesn't say is that they've known that these buildings could collapse for years without fixing the problem! And most of the residents are placed there by social services because they were in desperate need of housing. Many are elderly people with almost no money. They can't leave! The city needs rehouse these people pronto and demolish these buildings before they collapse! If one of these buildings do suddenly collapse with the residents still in them, it'll be bloody murder!

The residents were allowed back in. They live there now, and they know the buildings are unstable and might collapse. I don't envy them! They'll be evacuated again next storm, if it hasn't collapsed yet...

Btw, there are also three schools which might collapse. And the city authorities have known about this problem for years as well! B.T.: Tre skoler truet af sammen-styrtning (in danish only, sorry...)
