At long last, I have proof of one of my suspicions as to the origin of this, much used, term for the Bin Laden gang.
You see, I have an Uncle--passed now--who, being a Civil Engineer/Geologist, spent 20 years of his career opening oil fields in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait,
and Iraq--with ARAMCO in the early years before it was ARAMCO. Since he spoke fluent Arabic and a couple of Bedouin Dialects, I was familiar with the
term "Al Qaeda", and it's various meanings when used as a prefix or suffix with other Arabic words. The meaning used alone--as we see it is,
universally, "crapper", aka Toilet Bowl--and not "Base" or "Database" unless used with other terms to designate it.
If you want to see the "proof", the full article, which contains far more and more interesting revelations than the names of Arabian "facilities",
