Lloyd Owusu's double steered Brentford to a 3-1 victory over Coca-Cola League One promotion rivals Barnsley at Griffin Park.

The Bees opened the scoring through Ricky Newman's 12th-minute strike following good work from Jay Tabb, before Owusu doubled the lead midway through the opening half. Tommy Wright headed in for the visitors in the 68th minute but Owusu sealed the points from the penalty spot after Neil Austin had fouled Calum Willock.

Colchester lost ground on teams chasing the second automatic promotion place, with Richard Butcher scoring the only goal of the game at Boundary Park for Oldham after Kemal Izzet was dismissed for the visitors.

Sam Aiston's double set Tranmere on their way to 4-1 win against Chesterfield at Prenton Park. The visitors had taken the lead through Jamie O'Hara before Aiston struck, with Chris Greenacre and Stephen O'Leary extending the lead.

At the bottom, Blackpool and Rotherham could not muster a goal at Bloomfield Road, with the visitors having Martin Butler sent off.

Gillingham earned a point against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, with Nathan Tyson levelling for the hosts after Julian Bennett's early own goal.

Damion Stewart headed in the only goal of the game at Dean Court, with Bradford earning maximum points against Bournemouth.

Port Vale's Leon Constantine scored a late leveller at Doncaster after Leo Fortune-West had opened the scoring, while Yeovil and Swindon played out a goalless draw.
