In my opinion the Quran is mixed, it has several reactions from those who believe it. The Quran can be broken into two halfs, the more peaceful first half and the all vengeful God will help YOU kill all non-believers second half.

So that is why I believe it CAN help to promote violence, more so even than any other religion, christianity being very close. Because the Quran does not go from killing to loving but rather from loving to killing.
