On Monday, Stan Van Gundy stepped down from the head coaching position with the Miami Heat. He cited personal reasons as the impetus for this move. Many consider this move came from inside the organization, specifically from General Manager, and now Head Coach, again, Pat Riley.

The announcement came as a surprise, but only because it was kept so quiet that no one suspected anything was amiss following the victory over the Wizards. The return of Shaquille O'Neal after 18 games overshadowed all else, including a season-high 41 points from Dwyane Wade. Interestingly enough, though, O'Neal didn't seem all too pleased following the game.

It has never been a secret that O'Neal has really, really wanted to play for Riley, putting him in the same category as former coach Phil Jackson in terms of legendary coaches who command respect. Now he'll get his chance.

They do seem to be playing better under Riles, maybe this was a good move for all...
