Ajax took a giant step towards securing Champions League football next season as they moved seven points clear of third-placed AZ Alkmaar with a 4-0 win over RKC Waalwijk.

Late first-half goals from Ryan Babel and Zdenek Grygera gave Danny Blind's men the advantage going into the interval before Nigel de Jong increased the lead with 13 minutes remaining. Angelos Charisteas added gloss to the scoreline with his last-minute strike as Ajax recorded their sixth consecutive Eredivisie victory.

Relegation-threatened Den Bosch earned a valuable 1-0 home win over Twente Enschede, while fifth-placed Heerenveen came from behind to draw 2-2 with Willem II. Two second-half goals from Michel Breuer helped Heerenveen capture their point.

The Amstel Cup finalists from Tilburg had taken a two-goal lead in the first period with Kevin Bobson and Iwan Redan on the mark.
