CANTON, Texas -- The father of a high school football player shot and wounded the coach with an assault rifle Thursday and fled in a pickup loaded with weapons, claiming to have a hit list, authorities said.
CANTON, Texas -- A man charged with shooting and critically wounding his son's high school football coach got the idea the day before -- on his 45th birthday -- and expected to be killed by officers' gunfire afterward, police said Friday.
"I don't think anything happened just recently to trigger this," Canton police chief Mike Echols said. "He thought up what he was going to do on his birthday."
