A five goal thriller at the Millenium Stadium saw Chelsea beat Liverpool 3-2 in the Carling Cup final.
Although originally at the bottom of Mourinho's list of priorities, the Carling Cup took on much more significance after such a poor week. The Blues'
Quadruple hopes went up in smoke at Newcastle, while their UEFA Champions League dreams took a turn for the worse with defeat in Barcelona.
But Jose Mourinho won his first trophy in English football as Chelsea beat Liverpool 3-2 after extra-time in a thrilling Carling Cup final on Sunday.
But he was not on the touchline in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium to see it having been sent from the dug-out for allegedly taunting Liverpool fans.
John Arne Riise had put Liverpool ahead in the first minute before Steven Gerrard was unlucky to head into his net 11 minutes from the end of normal
time. In the second period of extra time Didier Drogba and Mateja Kezman scored in quick succession and although Antonio Nunez headed Liverpool back
into contention, they could not force penalties.
