In an effort to bolster their bullpen, the Florida Marlins have signed right-handed reliever Jim Mecir to a one-year contract.
The 34-year-old Mecir went 0-5 with a 3.59 ERA and two saves in 65 games with the Oakland Athletics last season. He equaled a career-best with 21
holds and limited opposing hitters to a .239 average.
In 10 big league seasons, Mecir has compiled a record of 28-31 with a 3.83 ERA and 12 saves in 422 games. He has also pitched for Seattle, the Yankees
and Tampa Bay.
To make room for Mecir on the 40-man roster, the Marlins designated pitcher Kevin Cave for assignment.
