Arturo Gatti retained his WBC super-lightweight title with a fifth-round stoppage of 'Jesse' James Leija in Atlantic City.
The victory puts Gatti in line for a mouthwatering fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
After a fine boxing performance, rather than his trademark brawling, Gatti pounced 30 seconds into round five, knocking Leija down with a right-hand
shot.
Leija got back up but it only delayed the inevitable.
A left hook sent him down again and referee Earl Brown counted him out with 72 seconds of the round remaining.
Leija, 38, is now set to retire.
