Martina Navratilova's hopes of adding to her record Grand Slam title collection at the Australian Open were dashed on Saturday.
Navratilova, 48, and mixed doubles partner Max Mirnyi were beaten in the semi-finals in Melbourne by fourth seeds Kevin Ullyett and Liezel Huber. The
seventh seeds lost the match on a super tie-break after sharing the opening two sets.
Navratilova, who has 58 Grand Slam titles to her name, and Mirnyi fought back after losing the first set 6-2 to take the second 6-3.
However, in the first-to-10-points super tie-break, it was Ullyett - who had earlier won the men's doubles title with Wayne Black - and Huber who
edged it 10-8. Ullyett and Huber will now face the Australian pairing of Scott Draper and Samantha Stosur in Sunday's final.
