AZ Alkmaar suffered a blow to their title hopes as they were held to a 1-1 draw by lowly NEC Nijmegen on Friday night.
The visitors took a shock lead in the first half and it took a Kenneth Perez equaliser on the stroke of half-time to spare Alkmaar's blushes as they
moved a point ahead of PSV at the summit of the Eredivisie.
NEC opened the scoring completely against the run of the play with a goal from Andrzej Niedzielan in the 23rd minute.
Romano Denneboom hit a shot from long-range that bounced off the inside of both posts and Niedzielan was first to the rebound to apply a simple finish
from three yards.
However AZ piled on the pressure and deservedly levelled the scores when defender Jan Kromkamp lifted the ball over two NEC defenders to find Perez,
who made no mistake with a terrific finish from seven yards out.
