Lille failed to reduce the lead of champions and Ligue 1 leaders Lyon when they were held 0-0 at Ajaccio on Saturday evening.

Lyon, who drew 1-1 with Marseille on Friday and are aiming for a fourth title in a row, will therefore still have a three-point lead over Lille when Ligue 1 resumes after the Christmas break.

The big winners of the weekend were Auxerre who went third and now trail Lyon by seven points. Auxerre prevailed in an astonishing home game when they won 4-3 in a match with Nice when all seven goals were scored in 16 second-half minutes. Rene Bolf opened the scoring for the Burgundy-based hosts only for Sammy Traore to equalise for Nice. Benjamin Mwaruwari put Auxerre ahead again only for Marama Vahirua to equalise from the spot. Immediately Bonaventure Kalou restored Auxerre's lead - once more Nice hit back through Olivier Echouafni. Finally Mwaruwari snatched the winner with his second.

Paris St Germain ended the year with a 3-0 home win over Metz. A Mehdi Meniri own goal gave PSG the lead in the first half and a second-half penalty from Pedro Pauleta and a third from Fabrice Pancrate wrapped up a famous win for the Parisians.

Toulouse finished the year with a 2-0 win at Caen thanks to goals from Benjamin Psaume and Daniel Moreira.

Lens picked up their third win in four games with a 2-1 triumph at home to out-of-form Bastia. Two goals from Daniel Cousin put Lens in charge but then Tony Vairelles pulled one back for the Corsicans against his former team with whom he won a 1998 Ligue 1 title.

Earlier, Mohamed Kallon's 13th goal of the season gave Monaco a 1-1 draw at home to Bordeaux who had taken the lead though Jean-Claude Darcheville.

Goals from Julien Sable and Frederic Mendy ensured St Etienne ended the year with a 2-0 win at bottom club Istres despite the sending off of Zoumana Camara.

Cedric Kante's early goal helped Strasbourg beat Rennes 1-0 and climb out of the relegation zone at the expense of Bastia.

Nantes and Sochaux will play the last Ligue 1 match of the year on Sunday.
