Lille failed to reduce the lead of champions and Ligue 1 leaders Lyon when they were held 0-0 at Ajaccio on Saturday evening.
Lyon, who drew 1-1 with Marseille on Friday and are aiming for a fourth title in a row, will therefore still have a three-point lead over Lille when
Ligue 1 resumes after the Christmas break.
The big winners of the weekend were Auxerre who went third and now trail Lyon by seven points. Auxerre prevailed in an astonishing home game when they
won 4-3 in a match with Nice when all seven goals were scored in 16 second-half minutes. Rene Bolf opened the scoring for the Burgundy-based hosts
only for Sammy Traore to equalise for Nice. Benjamin Mwaruwari put Auxerre ahead again only for Marama Vahirua to equalise from the spot. Immediately
Bonaventure Kalou restored Auxerre's lead - once more Nice hit back through Olivier Echouafni. Finally Mwaruwari snatched the winner with his
Paris St Germain ended the year with a 3-0 home win over Metz. A Mehdi Meniri own goal gave PSG the lead in the first half and a second-half penalty
from Pedro Pauleta and a third from Fabrice Pancrate wrapped up a famous win for the Parisians.
Toulouse finished the year with a 2-0 win at Caen thanks to goals from Benjamin Psaume and Daniel Moreira.
