Former Toronto Blue Jays manager Bobby Mattick has died after suffering a stroke. Mattick was 89.

He started with the Blue Jays in 1976 as a scouting supervisor and became the second manager of the franchise in 1980.

"Bobby Mattick was the senior statesman of the Blue Jays family since day one," Blue Jays president Paul Godfrey said.

"He not only served in many positions on the baseball side of our operation, but also acted as an advisor to general manager J.P. Ricciardi in recent years."

Mattick compiled a record of 104-164 in two years as Blue Jays manager before being replaced by Bobby Cox.
