DENVER -- The Denver Broncos fired David Gibbs as defensive backs coach Wednesday and replaced him with assistant Jimmy Spencer, a former Broncos
safety.
Kirk Doll, an assistant defensive and special teams coach, will help Spencer coach defensive backs.
No reasons were immediately given for Gibbs' departure. He is the son of Alex Gibbs, the former long-time offensive line coach for the Broncos.
Spencer began his coaching career as a player-coach in 2003 but retired as a player before this season.
The Broncos (6-3) have only three interceptions this year, two by cornerback Champ Bailey and one by cornerback Kelly Herndon.
