St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa announced on Friday that Woody Williams will be his starter when the team begins the 2004 World Series
against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday at Fenway Park.
The decision did not come as a surprise, as Williams took the mound in the opening game of the Cardinals' National League Championship Series against
Houston as well as Game 1 of the Division Series versus Los Angeles. The 38- year-old righthander is 2-0 with a 2.84 in three playoff starts this
season and allowed just one hit in seven shutout innings in Game 5 of the NLCS.
La Russa did not reveal his rotation for the remainder of the World Series, or who would serve as the designated hitter for the first two games in
Boston.
