REYKJAVIK, Iceland (AP) - Iceland upset Italy 2-0 in a friendly Wednesday, a disappointing debut for new Italian coach Marcello Lippi.

Eidur Gudjohnsen scored in the 17th, and Gylfi Einarsson made it 2-0 just two minutes later. Lippi apologized for the loss, as did goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

"We got two slaps in the face and let's take them home," Lippi said. "The team showed goodwill, and little else."

"For the next match (World Cup qualifier against Norway) I will have to pick the players in best form, it will be an important point. I'm sorry for this loss on my debut, but I never start a new commitment positively."

Buffon added: "I'm sorry for the result and for Mr. Lippi's loss in his debut. It was a double bitterness."

"But even in our best form, we could have had problems against this team," he added.
