LONDON (AP) - Danny Williams, who beat Mike Tyson last month, will fight Uzbekistan's Oleg Maskaev on Oct. 9 in London for the vacant World Boxing
Union heavyweight title.
Williams stunned the boxing world with a fourth-round knockout of Tyson in Louisville, Ky., on July 30, improving his record to 32-3.
"I wanted to make sure Danny was kept busy," Williams' promoter, Frank Warren, said Tuesday.
Maskaev, now based in New York, is 29-5. He's beaten Julius Francis - whom Tyson knocked out in 2000 - and Hasim Rahman in his 11-year career.
Williams, considered a journeyman before the Tyson bout, returned to England on Monday following numerous TV appearances in the United States.
"After this, we will keep going wherever the money is," Warren said, "because when Danny fought Mike, I told him it was his ticket to the big American
Warren said he hasn't ruled out a rematch with Tyson.
"Danny has got Mike's number," he said.
