BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) - World No. 3 Guillermo Coria had arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder in Spain and expects to miss the U.S. Open this
month.
Coria had surgery in Barcelona on Monday on his right shoulder, which has bothered him since the French Open.
Nerve damage in the shoulder eventually forced him to retire during his first-round match in the Cincinnati Masters last week and pull out of the
Athens Olympics.
"The doctors say I will be out for up to three months," Coria said on his Web site gcoria.com on Tuesday. "I haven't given up hope that I will be
playing by the end of the year."
Coria said he planned a brief vacation and would make scheduled public appearances in the United States. He was a quarterfinalist at last year's U.S.
Open.
He was the second top-ranked Argentine to pull out of Athens because of an injury.
French Open winner Gaston Gaudio also withdrew after he aggravated a right heel injury during the Cincinnati Masters.
