Former French international rugby captain Marc Cecillon was in police custody today after shooting dead his wife.
The 45-year-old shot his wife several times in front of 60 witnesses at a party in Bourgoin-Jallieu. He was subsequently restrained by the guests and
handed over to the local police.
Cecillon, who played for Bourgoin for 23 years before finally retiring in 1999, was according to the police drunk at the time of the shooting and did
not realise his wife was dead until he awoke this morning.
Cecillon, who had returned to Bourgoin to be their general manager, and his wife had grown apart over several years and the tragedy occurred after
their latest row.
Best-known as a rampaging flanker, Cecillon played 46 times for France from 1988-95 and captained 'Les Tricolores' five times.
