Los Angeles Times

The Times' Mike DiGiovanna reports that Angels owner Arte Moreno suggested yesterday that he is unwilling to deal for Randy Johnson or Kris Benson if it means "mortgaging (the team's) minor league organization".

The Sun-Times' Toni Ginnetti reports that the Twins may be close to completing a trade for Pirates starter Kris Benson.

Will Mets buy or sell?
Bergen Record

The Record's Bob Klapisch reports that the Mets could be buyers or sellers at the deadline. Although the Mets are interested in Victor Zambrano and Kris Benson, there is also a chance that they could trade Al Leiter to the Yankees and Tom Glavine to the Red Sox

Hunter becomes the hunted
Chicago Sun-Times

Twins center fielder Torii Hunter stood in the on-deck circle before a ninth-inning at-bat and expected to get an earful from White Sox fans. What he got was a shock... According to Hunter, a fan leaned over the railing a few feet from the too-close-for-comfort on-deck mat and issued a death threat.

Padres mull what to give for Finley
San Diego Union-Tribune

San Diego might be Finley's first choice, but it is Arizona's last in terms of where to ship him. History tells us the Padres have made a major league trade with everyone in the division except the Diamondbacks, and Arizona doesn't appear intent on making this a comfortable transition for its rival. And why should it?

Mets could swap Kazmir for Zambrano
Newark Star-Ledger

Victor Zambrano is attracting strong interest from the Mets, who are seriously considering dealing Scott Kazmir to get the Devil Rays pitcher.

Astros should stay the course with Kent
Houston Chronicle

Question: If Jeff Kent won't agree to a trade, should the Astros simply cut him and bring up Chris Burke? It wouldn't cost them much more than they were going to spend anyway.

As interested as the Phillies and Marlins have been in Steve Finley, neither team will be getting him.

Finley has said he will refuse to waive the no-trade clause of his contract to go to an east coast team.

I was hoping the Phillies could land Finley and it now looks like Kris Benson from Pittsburgh will be going to the Twin Cities.

The Benson trade ain't final yet, man!

You don't think that a chance to win the Series is good enough for Finley?

Pitcher Orlando Hernandez of the Yankees left the game in the bottom of the 3rd inning due to tightness in his left hamstring. He was replaced on the mound by Juan Padilla.

The Yankees will be looking even harder for a sterter, lucky for them Kevin Brown and Mike Mussina should be back soon.

As much as I hate the Marlins, why in the world why they trade any one of these guys, they are all having good seasons thus far. It makes me wonder if any of them are in their contract year.
