IRVING, Texas - Dallas Cowboys veteran safety Darren Woodson suffered a ruptured disc in his back while working out and is scheduled to undergo
surgery.
Woodson, arguably one of the best at his position, will most likely miss all of training camp and possibly the beginning of the regular season. The
former All-Pro is a vital cog in Dallas' secondary.
He is the team's all-time leading tackler with 1,251 career stops and the only member on the current roster to own three Cowboys' Super Bowl rings.
The 35-year-old Woodson posted 79 tackles and one interception in 16 games last season. Woodson, a 13-year pro out of Arizona State, has 23
interceptions and two touchdowns in his career.
Woodson was a second-round draft choice of the Cowboys in 1992.
Tony Dixon is expected to see more playing time if Woodson is unable to return.
