Colorado Springs, CO (Sports Network) - Due to health concerns, Philadelphia Flyers forward Jeremy Roenick was replaced on Team USA's roster for the
upcoming World Cup of Hockey by New Jersey forward Scott Gomez.
"We are disappointed Jeremy will not be able to play in the World Cup of Hockey although we certainly respect his health concerns and we wish him and
his family the best," said Team USA General Manager Larry Pleau. "We're thrilled to be able to add a player with the abilities of Scott Gomez. It was
a difficult decision to not select Scott to the initial roster, but there were some very good players not named. He'll be a quality addition to the
team."
Gomez just completed his fifth season with the Devils. He played in 80 regular-season games and registered 70 points on 14 goals and a career-high 56
assists, making him the second-leading scorer on the club.
The World Cup of Hockey will be held August 30-September 14 across North America and Europe. Team USA will begin practicing in late August in
Columbus, Ohio, and will begin play on August 31 against Canada at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
