Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Penguins agreed to terms on a multi-year contract Tuesday with defenseman Ric Jackman.

The 26-year-old Jackman tallied seven goals and 17 assists in 25 games for Pittsburgh last season after being acquired from Toronto on February 11 in exchange for Drake Berehowsky. In 29 contests for the Maple Leafs in 2003-04, he had two goals and four assists.

"Ric is an important part of our team and was instrumental in our late-season success, especially on the power play," said general manager Craig Patrick. "We're extremely pleased to have him under contract as we move forward."

The 6-2 Jackman has also enjoyed stints with Dallas and Boston during his five-year NHL career. In 136 games, he has collected 10 goals and 25 assists.

Once again the Maple Leafs let good young talent get away. Jackman had troubles early in his career, but over his time with the leafs showed alot of improvement. He needed the extra ice time that Pat Quinn lavishes on the great Aki Berg. He'll get all the ice time he wants with the talent light Pittsburgh squad. The penguins will probably sign Berehowsky, who I understand was a pretty big part of their defence, and the leafs just keep getting older.
