Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ruslan Fedotenko will bring the sport's most prestigious trophy, the Stanley Cup, to his native Ukraine next week, a
Ukrainian sports official said Tuesday.
"It'll be a great honor for us to greet such a celebrity as Fedotenko and the Stanley Cup in Kiev next Monday," said Vasiliy Metsrad, general manager
for Ukraine's ice hockey team said.
He said there will be "a hero's welcome" for Fedotenko and the trophy.
According to tradition, all players from the club that wins the Stanley Cup can have it for two days and Fedotenko has decided to take it to the
Ukrainian capital. During its stay in Kiev, the trophy will be guarded by security guards and an NHL official.
In June, Fedotenko scored twice in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals to give Tampa Bay a 2-1 victory over Calgary.
