TOKYO (AP) - Japan's Yutaka Niida defeated champion Noel Arambulet of Venezuela on Saturday to capture the WBA minimumweight title.
Niida won with a unanimous decision over Arambulet in the 12-round bout at Korakuen Hall.
Arambulet fell to 20-3-1 with 10 knockouts. Niida improved to 16-1-3 with eight knockouts.
Arambulet was stripped of his title Friday when he failed to make weight for the bout. Arambulet weighed in at 47.9 kilograms, 300 grams above the
47.6-kilogram weight limit.
The title would have become vacant if Arambulet had won or if the fight ended in a draw.
