BUFFALO (AP) - The Nevada State Athletic Commission has been waiting since March to see medical tests from local heavyweight Baby Joe Mesi. According
to team Mesi, they won't have to wait much longer.
Joe's Father and Manager Jack Mesi says they'll be turning over the results in the near future - in his words - "the sooner the better."
According to several reports, Mesi suffered what's called a subdural hematoma (bleeding on the brain) in his March win over Vassily Jirov.
It's a career ending injury. At the time, team Mesi says they were told it was a "concussion."
Since then, they've have kept things close to the vest, saying only that they were consulting with doctors. Know they're apparently ready to move
forward.
The Nevada State Commission requested the tests after the Jirov fight, and Mesi won't be cleared until they see, and evaluate the results.
Mark Ratner, the Chair of the Commission, says they're most interested in seeing the tests that took place immediately after the fight. If it's
determined Mesi suffered the brain bleed initially, he would be permanently suspended according to the Commission, regardless of whether he could
demonstrate that he's recovered.
