Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - The Baltimore Orioles have claimed catcher Ken Huckaby off waivers from the Texas Rangers.
Huckaby was designated for assignment by Texas July 2 after batting .160 (4- for-25) in eight games with the club. The 33-year-old backstop will be
added to the Orioles' active roster to serve as a backup to Javy Lopez.
Huckaby is a .235 career hitter and has spent time with Arizona, Toronto and Texas during each of the last four seasons. His best year came with the
Blue Jays in 2002, when he batted .245 with three home runs and 22 RBI in 88 games.
Baltimore also transferred starting pitcher Eric DuBose from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list. The lefthander has been sidelined since June 20
with left elbow soreness.
