EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (AP) - The New Jersey Devils made their first free agent addition, signing left wing Darren Langdon on Saturday.

Terms were not disclosed.

The 33-year-old Langdon had a team-leading 135 penalty minutes in 64 games with the Montreal Canadiens last season. He was acquired by the Canadiens from the Vancouver Canucks in October 2003.

A nine-year veteran, Langdon will be joining his fifth team, previously playing for New York, Carolina, Vancouver and Montreal. He has 16 goals and 22 assists and 1,229 penalty minutes in 507 career NHL games.

The Devils on Thursday re-signed two-thirds of their checking line - John Madden and Jay Pandolfo.

I look forward to his bouts with Flyers enforcer Donald Brashear now that these two are in the same division and part of a nasty rivalry.
