Detroit, MI (AP) - The Red Wings re-signed center Kris Draper to a four-year contract Thursday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Draper had a career season in 2003-04, posting 24 goals and 16 assists with five shorthanded tallies. He also won the Selke Trophy as the NHL's best defensive forward.

"We are all very pleased to have Kris signed for the next four seasons," said Detroit general manager Ken Holland. "He has been a vital part of this team's success over the years, and having him back will help our club remain competitive for seasons to come."

Draper, a native of Toronto, Ontario was originally acquired from the Winnipeg Jets for future considerations back in June, 1993.

The 14-year veteran has netted 108 goals with 128 assists in 724 games played in his career.

I think the fact that they re-signed him to a four year contract in the state of the NHL right now speaks volumes.
