AYALA DOWN 2 TIMES after combinations from BARRERA. Awesome round. I thought the fight was over but Ayala managed to survive.

It was a tough night for two classy Texas pros, who effectively saw their careers come to a crashing halt in the fading Southern California twilight.

Such is the nature of the boxing that both Paulie Ayala and Raul Marquez exited the sport they love while on their shields.

Legendary Mexican featherweight and former world champion Marco Antonio Barrera hammered away at Ayala with a brutal barrages of leather registering three knockdowns en route to scoring a scalding tenth round knockout.

The talented Jermain Taylor continued his quest for a shot at the middleweight title by manhandling Marquez before eventually stopping the former 154-pound champion on a bloody ninth round TKO.
