NEW YORK -- The NBA set an attendance record for regular and postseason games by fewer than 58,000 fans.

The final NBA attendance was 21,855,125, breaking the mark of 21,797,222 set during the 1995-96 season.

The Detroit Pistons won the title Tuesday night with their Game 5 victory over the Los Angles Lakers. The record was broken in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

The NBA also said Friday that regular-season attendance of 17,050 was the highest since the 1997-98 season, when the average was 17,135.

Who keeps track of useless statistics like that. They are the sort of thing that people look at once, say "Oh, cool we set a new record for games this year." and never remember or care about anymore.

They are useless entirely and some dumba$$ is probably getting paid a good $ 70, 000 per year to keep track of stuff like that.

When I was little I was obsessed with hockey and did keep track of that stuff. I'd be like "Gretzky averaged a goal every 3 shift in home games when he wore is lucky boxers" or something like that

Yeah, it's kinda neat, but useless info. Wouldn't it be awesome to have a job where you get paid like 70 grand a year to keep track of these silly statistics? I'd almost kill for a job like that!
