VERONA, N.Y.(AP) - Victoriano Sosa won an unanimous decision over Marteze Logan in a 10-round lightweight bout Friday that began the International
Boxing Hall of Fame induction weekend.
Sosa (38-4-2), cousin of Chicago Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa, looked for his 28th career knockout in the middle rounds but Logan (13-9-1) proved to be a
tougher opponent than expected.
"He was a real strong fighter," Sosa said through an interpreter.
"He was a little bit heavier than I was so I just decided to work him out
and let him tire himself out."
In the fifth, Sosa landed a hard right on Logan's face, drawing blood from his nose. The hit hurt Sosa's right hand and he threw fewer punches from
the right as the fight continued.
"I have no doubt that I would have finished him off in the sixth or seventh if I didn't hurt my hand," Sosa said.
