ALLEN PARK, Michigan (AP) - The Detroit Lions on Friday reached agreement with former Pro Bowl tight end Stephen Alexander on a one-year contract.
Terms were not disclosed, but the deal is believed to be worth $1.25 million.
The signing of Alexander spells the end in Detroit for tight end Mikhael Ricks, who has been given permission to seek a trade. Ricks spent the last
two years with the Lions and caught 37 passes for 434 yards and two touchdowns in 2003.
Alexander, 28, was released by the San Diego Chargers in March after playing in just three games last season due to a hernia injury.
A six-year veteran, Alexander was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2000 when he caught 47 passes for 510 yards with the Washington Redskins.
