Greek athletes will take part in a test event at the Olympic stadium in Athens next month. The Greek Athletic Championships will be held at the
revamped stadium from 10-12 June.
There had been fears that work on the stadium would not be completed in time to host a test event.
But the running track has now been laid and work on a spectacular roof, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, is progressing rapidly.
The number of spectators at the test event will be restricted but the meeting will offer a chance to test out the technicological aspects of the new
stadium.
A Greek spokesman confirmed there will be qualifying rounds on each of the three morning sessions of the test event, with finals scheduled for the
evening programme.
Every top Greek star, including reigning Olympic 200m champion Konstantinos Kenteris and 100m silver-medallist Katerina Thanou, will be competing.
