Second seed Anna Smashnova Pistolesi of Israel claimed the Vienna Grand Prix title, beating Alicia Molik of Australia in three sets. Smashnova
Pistolesi overcame Molik 6-2 3-6 6-3 in a tight match to win her second Vienna title in three years and her ninth WTA title.
The Israeli broke Molik's serve twice and closed the opening set 6-2 in only 28 minutes. The Australian started the match nervously, producing a
number of unforced errors. However, she suddenly found her rhythm at 3-0 down in the second set and played more aggressively, putting her opponent
under pressure. Molik broke Smashnova's serve three times and won six games in a row to level the match in just under an hour.Both players served well
in the deciding set, until Smashnova broke Molik once again in game eight. She then put away two winners to wrap up the match 6-3.
