Despite being 77 years old, despite having a losing record in 3 out of the past 4 years, Joe Paterno, head football coach at Penn State University, signed a 4 year contract extension today.

Penn State has extended the contract of head football coach Joe Paterno for an additional four years. Director of Athletics Tim Curley announced today that he and Paterno have agreed on a contract that replaces his current pact and will keep the coaching legend at the school through the 2008 football season. Most of you don't live here in the heart of Penn State country, but I do. I have had to put up with the moaning and complaining from the fans around here. I don't care. Paterno deserves to retire when he darn well feels like it. The kids playing for him today have the rare opportunity to play for a legend. How many other coaches, NCAA or NFL, have the track record that Joe does?? I honestly think he will get another NCAA championship under his belt before he retires.
