Esham Pickering defends his European super bantamweight belt against Spain's Juan Garcia Martin on Wednesday.
Pickering stepped out of his class when he was overwhelmed by Panama's Mauricio Martinez in a bid for the WBO bantamweight title four years ago.
But the 27-year-old responded by moving up a division and has fought his way back into world title contention.
"I've been through some bad experiences but it's all about patience and I can go all the way," said Pickering.
"I've worked for eight years for this and it's all paying off now."
Martin, 31, has won of all his 11 professional fights after staying amateur until he was 27.
But he has not faced anyone of the same level as Pickering, who is aiming to win his fifth straight fight inside the distance.
Promising English cruiserweight David Haye boxes on the same card against Arthur Williams at Reading's Rivermead Leisure Centre.
