Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe, British
boxing's top two crowd pullers, will put their unbeaten records on the line in a major show at Manchester's MEN Arena on Saturday, June 5.Promoter
Frank Warren announced details of the double-header at a press conference at the Landmark Hotel in Marylebone, London, on Tuesday.
Welshman Joe Calzaghe will step up to the light heavyweight division to take on IBF champion Glencoffe Johnson. And local boy Hatton will make his 13th
WBU light welterweight defence against an unnamed opponent. It had been expected that Hatton would fight American Sharmba Mitchell at the MEN Arena,
but another opponent is now due to be announced on Monday.Hatton won his last fight 10 days ago, stopping late substitute Dennis Pedersen in six
rounds at the MEN Arena after original opponent Kelson Pinto, the big-hitting Brazilian, pulled out at short notice. The double attraction of Hatton,
who regularly attracts crowds in excess of 16,000 to the MEN Arena, and Calzaghe, who draws 5,000 in Cardiff, looks set to result in a sell-out
attendance approaching 20,000.
