Ralph Firman's hopes of securing a drive with Jordan again for the new Formula One season were revived today after Dutch driver Jos Verstappen failed to reach a deal with the team.

Several candidates are ready to step in to the driver's seat, including German Nick Heidfeld and Britain's Allan McNish.Verstappen had been the leading contender, but his management team revealed negotiations had broken down. With the new season starting in March, jordan still have yet to confirm their line-up so a deal with a driver should be made in the next few weeks.

Jordan have announced Nick Heidfeld as one of their drivers for this season.Heidfeld will get his first taste of Jordans 2004 challenger when he gives the machine its track debut at Silverstone next Wednesday. The Jordan drive means that Heidfeld will get to start his fifth season of Formula One season, ending fears that he could be left out in the cold after being dropped by Sauber.

The Silverstone-based team are also poised to confirm Jos Verstappen will be in the other seat, even though talks with the Dutchman broke down earlier this week. But Verstappen had nowhere else to go if he wanted to prolong his F1 career while the 5million in sponsorship he will bring is a much needed boost for the team.
