Redknapp revealed this week that he is travelling to Italy to embark on a scouting mission as he steps up his search for a new striker. Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is expected to watch Ivan Alonso in action this weekend, but another English side is trying to sign the Alaves attacker.

Spanish sources claim the wily Pompey chief will head for Spain on Sunday to watch Alaves' Segunda Liga clash with Eibar. Uruguayan forward Alonso is out of contract at the end of the season and has long been touted for a move to The Premiership.

Harry Redknapp and his network of scouts are currently spread across Europe as Portsmouth prepare for a frantic week of transfer activity before the January window closes on Saturday night.
Redknapp, whose side advanced to the fifth round of the FA Cup by beating S#horpe 2-1, is desperate to land two strikers after injuries and the African Nations Cup left him with Teddy Sheringham as his only fit frontman.

I take it your not from the UK.

They scout to find new players and January is the transfer window where teams are allowed to buy new players midway through the season. The next time players will be bought is when the season ends(pre-season) to start the new season.
