Andy Roddick, Olympic diver? Could have happened. Roddick's oldest brother, Lawrence, was a member of the U.S. national diving team. But it was his brother John, only six years older, who was interested in tennis.

After surviving a record marathon match in Melbourne to reach the semifinals -- a personal best at a Grand Slam tournament -- Roddick arrived at the French Open expecting more. Instead he fell in the first round at Roland Garros, prompting him to hire Andre Agassi's former coach Brad Gilbert before Wimbledon.

Roddick's coach Brad Gilbert will have Roddick ready to go for this first grand slam of the year. When Roddick and Gilbert first hooked up he improved Roddick in so many ways that he won his first U.S.Open and become the number 1 player in the year. Lets see if Roddick can win this years first grand slam. This is the first time in his career his is ranked 1 in the seedings of the tournament and is favored to win it.

Roddick proved to be the number 1 player in the world when he won his first round match in straight sets. 6-2, 7-5, 7-6 (4), roddick had 20 aces on his way to beating Fernado Gonzalez.

Roddick got a very hard draw drawin Gonzalez who was in the top 25 last year. Roddick got some lucky line calls on his way to winning the match, but Roddick still proved to be very strong in the long run.

Roddick moves on easily yet again, and this ttime did it under an hour and a half. But next round he faces a challenge, he faces fellow american taylor dent

Also agassi moves on, and same with todd martin and james black. Looks like the americans are doing a number.

Well a good match by roddick but loseing to Safin in the quaters. Tough loss but a hard fought match up.

After lossing the match Roddick will end up losing the Number 1 ranking

Thats even worse losing a match and your number 1 ranking. Its a while before the next grand slam and its on clay. Look for roddick to have another one of those streaks.
