A GIRL WAS ADDICTED TO LIP BALM FOR 6 YEARS IS TRYING TO STAY CLEAN.
A young girl from the USA has spent the last 6 years addicted to lip balm normal everyday over the counter lip balm. Some people say the lip balm was
laced with Heroin???

Story
Do you know anyone who has been addicted or climes to have been addicted to LIP BALM ??? Personally this is a first for me I do part time work for
D.A.T (Northampton Drug Action Team) and I have never heard anything like this before.
The girl did go through a "cold turkey" state once she stopped using the lip balm. These days the girl is on the part to recovery and she is
resisting the urge to reach for the lip balm stick

Gosh funny you bring this up,
I do see alot of young girls always putting on lip balm, like way to much..
Ii used to have a friend that carried it everywhere with her and i used to think she used it as a comfort blanket of sorts, as she would sit there
fiddling with it or putting it on, Guess it crossed my mind that she may have got in to a habit like holding a cigarette,.
But yes I can really see this happening, im sure there are loads out there who have this problem..

Well I need to have my lip balm overnight before going ot bed.
It has become a ritual.
During the day I have not problem and if I go out, I only wear lipstick, but at night I have to have that lip balm at bed time.

I never thought of it as an addiction before, but I keep one lip balm in the car, one in a bathroom cabinet, and one in my pocket...
My ex-girlfriend's (high school) dad always said that anything in excess can be addictive. Who knew!
I use Burt's Beeswax Lip Balm.

Maybe I can give you a phone number or web site for "Lip Balm Anonymous"
I think you are ok, but if you find your self sweating and craving to use your lip balm then you might have a problem ???

Interesting read. I wonder if these Lip Balm manufacturers are starting to get some naughty ideas to actually make lip balm that is actually
addictive! Yes I know there are many out there already who are hooked - But maybe adding some legal, addictive substances to the product? - They'd
sell like hot cakes.
Would that be wrong?

en.wikipedia.org...
There are many stories of lip balm addiction, where the users of lip balm feel the need to constantly re-apply the product, claiming that their
lips will chap and dry if they stop. Whether it is a physical withdrawal or purely psychological addiction is unclear. There are some urban legends
stating that lip balm manufacturers add special chemicals or even fiberglass to their product to facilitate lip chapping, but none of these claims
have ever been proven.
My guess is either that people get used to having their lips moisturized and the normal dryness becomes unbearable, or the lips physically get used to
having moisture applied. I don't know, it's not really a cause for worry, but I can't stand the feeling of lip balm.

I think it may be that she just got obsesive compulsive, because she was always aplying it, so she got used to it, idk.

You can get an addiction or habit, but "obsessive compulsive" is a disorder.
Either way, I've heard of this before from many places. It seems to be a common thing.

Well how bad can it be? My life is falling apart. My man left me, kids in foster homes. Spent the bill money on hidden cases of carmex. It
makes my lips feel sooooooo good, and when my lips are happy the whole family is happy
My husband thinks I naturally have chapless lips. I hope he doesn't find out that I am using lip balm to achieve this smooth lip surface.
I am so stressed out that I think I may start using visine, too.
Hi, my name is Kathy and I am a lipbalmaholic.
Don't laugh, it could happen to you

This thread brings back memories! I was adicted to "lip balm" for over 15 years. I am really serious about this, as getting off the lip balm - or
chap stick, addiction was harder than quitting smoking after 25 years. It did not matter if my lips were dry or not, every few minutes I just had to
add more chap stick to my already waxed lips or I felt that they were dry and cracking. The best thing that I found was military issue (I was in the
military for over 9 years) cold weather chap stick that I appropriated by the case. I used over a stick per week.
It is a quite disguisting habit as many times the corners of my lips were coated with chunks of wax. Sometimes I would wipe off the old wax on my
lips in order to apply new wax. Anyway, I knew I needed to quit so I did. However, because my lips did not need to produce their own protection,
when I quit my lips were cracked and bloody for about 6 weeks. Now, even in extremely dry weather ( and I live in a cold dry climate in winter) when
my lips are dry and cracked, I WILL NOT use any type of chap stick like product for fear of becoming addicted - I just let my lips crack and then heal
naturally.
Geez, this is really stupid! Talking of lip balm like I was addicted to crack - - but it was almost like that. As for heroin or fiberglass
being in limp balm - no. It was just a convenient way to keep my lips moist, and then my body becoming used to a outside source of moisture.
Happy new year to all!
(death to chap stick )

OMG hemp lip balm!! I know that people claim that you can feed and clothe the world with this "wonder" plant but isn't lip balm a bit too far?
Next we will be sticking it up our jacksy for haemorrhoid's or in our eyes to cure glaucoma?
