Ice Shelf Breaks Away

An ice shelf has broken from in the Canadian arctic.

A huge ice shelf 500 miles from the North Pole broke up, leaving a large floating island of ice in the Canadian Arctic, scientists said.

The 25.5 square-mile Ayles ice shelf broke free from the northern coast of Ellesmere Island in August 2005, National Geographic said. Scientists waited until now to announce the event because they wanted to reconstruct what happened.

When it occurred, the break registered as a small earthquake on instruments stationed 150 miles away, observers said.

Its being said the main cause is global warming, don't need to be a genius scientist to figure that one out.

This event happened over 16 months ago, as noted in the report. Obviously it took a while for anyone to notice, including members of the Canadian Press. Looks like evidence of a changing climate, doesn't it?

Yup! I'd definitely attribute this event to Global Warming.

It has nothing to do with having satellite technology for only....what.....20 years tops?....that would be able to instantly make these events in remote parts of the world known. Oh, and nevermind the fact that there have been ice ages and warmings in pre-history and frankly we have NO CLUE what happened or HOW they happened before all this technology came along!

I just love how only 25 years ago people were concerned about another coming ice age and now, oops, its getting too warm now, MUST BE GLOBAL WARMING!!
