any chance of a 'quick poll' forum? there's been many polls here in the past but i think it would be a good idea to have a specific forum where members can vote on their views of a current event or interesting question. it would make searching for them easier if they were all in the same place.

there use to be a poll system, but i think it got removed because it got abused and misused.

i.e "Do you think this member is gay" or something more childish.

Would we need a whole Forum for this? I like the idea, I honestly do. But I think we could meet our needs in a thread. Create a thread and run different polls maybe. The General Chit Chat forum could be an appropriate forum to house the thread. Or depending on the Poll itself, create a thread in a forum that pertains to the subject.

Our Canadian Politics Forum has had a few polls as of late. They are quite interesting.

every section had its ability to issue polls, i think this was back in 2003 (when i first signed up) and then the epic changes came in and it was removed

you could not possibly run many polls in one thread. it would have to be a forum containing a thread for each poll, otherwise when people replied with their votes it would be far too confusing to have X amount of A) yes B NO etc with no relevance to what was being voted on. plus it would also be a nightmare to search for anything. its like saying put all the ufo or 911 posts into one single thread.

if each thread had a title 'poll on X subject' its so much simpler to know whats going on.

how is though that when idiotic posts are made in other forums they can just be deleted, but you would stop a whole interesting forum rather than delete the offending posts? after all - its only the same scenario as the anon forum which has already had many spam, porn and irrelevant posts in there being deleted already.

i could say lets have a poll to see how many members would like a poll forum but there's nowhere to put it that wouldn't get lost very quickly

i think polls are great , and they should be brought back ASAP .

i certainly do not agree with the " potential for abuse " excuse

yes - they can be horribly abussed and used by trolls and sammers - but so can regular threads , what is the difference ?

solutions , include :

a " submit a poll " form - that would be held in limbo , pending staff review

and as that involves more staff work load - there should be a BIG warning that polls that violate T&C would " earn " warn flags [ MULTIPLE ] ,and points deductions [ BIG POINTS DEDUCTIONS ]

so it would be pollster beware - and people would [ i hope ] stop and think before risking staff ire .

alernatly , a hurdle [ 250 post count ] or applause [ 10 applauses recieved ] , before a member can post polls - would prevent the most likley abusers from even getting a poll submitted

lastly , have a " pollster " tag that people could earn - akin to the ATSNN " experts " , members who have repeatedly demonstrated that thier submissions were of a quality and consitency to earn them a greater degree of trust

i know anyone can potentially " go off the rails " even membrs of impecable long standing , but it is people who have just joined who [ imho anyway ] attract or seem to attract over 75% of staff punishments

so if the sort of people who cause most problems with violations of T&C in reguLar boards - are prevented from using - or must have staff review of thier polls

i honestly believe that very little drama and staff headaches would be generated by polls.

just my 0.002 grats [ YMMV]

well you only have to look at the posts appearing in the anon forum to see this forum will be pulled soon if that's the excuse they are using. its starting to look more and more like an email inbox as the days go by

I propose that we have a poll to see if this idea has merit.

Other sites I venture to have poll forums. They are great fun. I am all for a poll forum. It's a great idea!

A dedicated thread for these sorts of suggestions exists here:

ATS, BTS, What would you like to see in the future?
