Gary said himself he wasnt a great hacker. Most people are under the impression he was just a script kiddie. Also why would the govt want to employ someone who was trying to expose there top secrets.
They wouldnt be able to trust him.

The one thing that made me question his skills is the fact the he kept talking about hacking this and they called him a hacker and he never said different. Clearly though, what he did was not hacking, although that's what most people will call it. He was cracking their computers, not hacking them.

Hackers build things and crackers take things down, a hacker would build the security measures, and a cracker would find a way to get through them, although i suppose a hacker could get around them as well. I don't really know what he did for a living, maybe he was a hacker, but breaking into someone else's machine in that way should not be considered hacking. I'm sure that everyone will always say hacking no matter what it is, but i thought i would point that out.

It seems posts still show up for this guy. Some people are calling him a hacker, others a script kiddie. Either or he was very poor at what he done. Removing 1300+ accounts is not the work of someone that is used to hacking. Yes I admit that even when I was in the military we had a few people that still believed in the "no password" policy for the unclass machines. But thats just it, unclassified systems. Unless he had the cryptographic device and the required keys used to encrypt the data which is double encrypted by the way and are distributed via secure channels, i seriously doubt he even hit the classified networks. I saw something like this that was very similar. One day I had come to work and one of the unclassified terminals had an IRC script running a porn bot on it. I called NCIS at which point they promptly took away the computer to work on it. I really never expected to get that computer back, but i did in about 6 mos after I read an article about some guy in norway being brought up on charges for hacking government computers. The huge costs associated with hacking government computers has to deal with the man hours to either fix, clean up , and apprehend the criminal. As for this UK hacker, I bet he just found one of them NASA guy's spreadsheet for when they play Star Trek RPG. You know it gets pretty boring on watch and I remember countless times when the only salvation was an unclass machine with ability to yahoo or google.
